Lisa was an absolutely crucial part of our birthing experience. She brought an incredible calm and caring presence to our birth. She matched me consistently, whether I needed a pick me up, a shoulder to cry on or calming down. She was ready to try new things and help me make decisions. She was a wonderful cheerleader, too. She made me feel strong, safe and brave.

Lisa worked so well with all the care providers. We even had a nurse that we didn't jive with particularly well and Lisa was able to help us navigate that situation so everyone walked away feeling good. She was respectful of the work the providers needed to do, but also helped us assert our wants and needs.

Lisa is very empathetic and that allows her to know where you are in each step of the labor and delivery. She matches your moods and can give you what you need in different moments. She is calm and relaxed, even under pressure. She does a great job of talking through options and weighing pros and cons. And she's just a joy to be around!

It is such a feat to articulate all the ways in which Lisa showed up for both me and my husband during our pregnancy journey, birth experience and 4th trimester challenges. Lisa offered us unbiased guidance and unwavering support as we navigated this uncharted territory.

From the very beginning, I felt connected to Lisa. She created space for me to feel safe and heard - something so incredibly important during arguably the most vulnerable experience of your life. Lisa continued to be a reliable and calming presence as we encountered hurdles during pregnancy. Lisa quickly sourced evidenced-based resources and tools to help us better understand our pregnancy and birthing options when unexpected twists surfaced. We valued Lisa’s expertise, which was always delivered tenderly and without any agenda.

During my birth experience, Lisa was a voice I could hold on to as the intensity of labor continued to build. As a birthing medical professional, I genuinely trusted Lisa, which gifted me the ability to surrender in my experience and embrace being in the role of the patient.

Lisa was such an integral part of our carefully curated birth team. I couldn’t imagine a better fit or professional calling for Lisa. She is absolutely worth her weight in gold!

Lisa is kind, flexible, and supportive. Her positivity and calming energy radiate to form a quickly trusting and comfortable relationship. She also really knows her stuff and when she left our labor prep session, we felt much better equipped with strategies, options, and resources as we near the labor and delivery of our 2nd child.

Lisa absolutely met us where we are. She is an attentive listener who followed our lead and embodied flexibility, choice, and care. Lisa is highly intelligent and well versed in evidence-based practices. Specifically, she was immensely helpful in explaining pelvic dynamics and the importance of hip movements and asymmetry through different fetal stations. Lisa broke down the pelvic anatomy while also modeling many different movements and positions to support labor and help move the baby along.

We learned more from Lisa in an hour than we did through the full multi-week hospital birth prep courses or even labor and delivery itself with our first child. We feel more empowered and knowledgeable about how we can support and help labor progress this second time through.

Lisa is an awesome person and a wonderful teacher who is highly prepared with practical and helpful resources. We can't recommend her highly enough!

We had the unexpected pleasure of working with Lisa during the birth of our daughter in our home this summer. She was the backup for our doula and was on call for us when I ended up going into labor at 39 weeks. The day leading up to labor, I had pre labor signs and had some fear come up that I wasn’t ready to “get on the ride.” I texted with Lisa during the day, and she gave me the reassurance I needed. As the pre labor signs progressed, just knowing I had Lisa there to reach out to put me at ease for what was to come.

Labor began quickly and Lisa showed up right away as we anticipated a fast labor. When I looked up from my bed and saw Lisa standing there next to my sister and midwife, I was able to let go of fear and embrace the trust in my body and care team. During my birth experience, Lisa was right there with me, offering tools and suggestions as well as a presence that provided security and comfort. She knew that I was really working to stay mentally grounded and present. Whenever she sensed I might be struggling with this, she would check in to see where I was and gently guide me back into my body.

My sister was also at our birth and when we reflected on it later, she admired how Lisa anticipated my need and whenever my sister turned around to do something, Lisa was already there doing it. She fits into a birth in all the right ways - strong and steady but also giving space when needed. I am so grateful for Lisa’s support and presence. My daughter’s birth did turn out to be quite fast and I’ve often wished it had been longer so I could have had more time in labor with Lisa, enjoying all she has to offer.

From day one Lisa was very communicative and promptly responded to any questions we had. Lisa also had a wealth of resources which empowered us to make informed decisions both during pregancy and postpartum. Her dedication to ensuring we had access to a range of resources demonstrated her commitment to holistic care.

Lisa also had unwavering respect and support for my birthing decisions. She never imposed her own beliefs or preferences, but rather, she provided unbiased guidance. Her non-judgmental approach and respect for my autonomy created a safe space for me to express my desires and make empowered decisions about my birth experience.

Throughout the entire process, Lisa maintained a calm and soothing presence. Her reassuring demeanor and gentle encouragement were instrumental in helping us navigate pregnancy and labor. Her ability to create a serene environment during childbirth created a sense of comfort and security for me and my partner. Lisa seamlessly integrated with our nurses and midwives, ensuring a cohesive approach to my care and advocating for my preferences and wishes.

We cannot thank Lisa enough for her unwavering support and we highly recommend her!

Lisa was incredibly thoughtful and helpful throughout the entire birth process. Despite the fact that she was remote, we felt like she was ever-present and incredibly responsive and by our side both in the weeks leading up to birth - with helpful discussion sessions and ad-hoc advice/reassurance - and during labor, helping us navigate induction, back labor and the hours leading up to the delivery itself.

Throughout we felt very listened to and that Lisa went the extra mile to help us understand the labor process, our options, and even helped us understand what aspects and decisions of birth were most important to us.

In the face of a later-in-pregnancy diagnosis that led to induction at 37 weeks, Lisa was a calming and reassuring partner and tailored her focus specifically to soothe our anxieties and cover the details of our specific situation clearly and empathetically.

We truly couldn't have done it without her. We highly recommend her and would work with her again in a heartbeat!

In my experience with Lisa as a doula, she has been informed, kind, honest, straightforward, and genuine. She is everything I had hoped for in a doula, and I can not recommend her enough. Without question, the information and guidance she gave better prepared me for our birthing experience.

Out of all the doulas, doctors, and specialists we saw and spoke to, Lisa stands out as the person who provided the most beneficial experience and value. Thank you, Lisa, from the bottom of my and my baby girl's heart.

My husband and I truly cannot say enough good things about our experience working with Lisa as our birth doula. She is so kind, caring, empathetic, and smart! We also really appreciated her focus on evidence-based practices, and the enormous number of resources she has available to share. During my pregnancy, she was super available and responsive whenever I wanted to check in, and was also proactive about touching base just to see how things were going. Whenever I had concerns or questions (and there were so many!), it was so wonderful to know that I could reach out to her for advice or just an empathetic listening ear!

When I was in labor, she helped me remotely through two days of intermittent contractions at home, and provided tons of ideas for movement to help things progress. Once she joined us in the hospital, she was an important physical and emotional support for both me and my husband - she gave him concrete ways he could support me, and ensured that he was taking care of himself as well. She worked seamlessly with all the hospital staff we interacted with during the course of my labor. When things didn't progress as expected, she helped me talk through my options and clarify what was most important to me. I was so glad I made the decisions I did about how to proceed, and ultimately feel positively about the whole experience of my daughter's birth, and that is due in no small part to Lisa's support.

I've told so many people: "I just can't imagine what our birth experience would have been like if Lisa hadn't been there!" If and when we decide to have another child, Lisa will be one of our first calls!

We had a great experience for the birth of our second son with Lisa as our doula. Knowing her practices were evidence based was very reassuring in preparing for birth.

Both prenatal visits were helpful in discussing my previous birth experience and how I hoped this one would go, positions that can be helpful to prepare for and while I am in labor, support we were seeking from Lisa and discussing postpartum.

Lisa was also very available during the prenatal period and answering any questions I had. She proactively checked in after every appointment and as I got close to and past my due date providing support.

During labor, Lisa was quickly available by text and met us at the hospital as my labor was progressing. She provided emotional support, and physical supports like counter pressure, and suggestions of different positions to try throughout the labor helping in providing me with a positive birth experience.

Lisa stayed after the birth to help with breastfeeding and made sure we were all set before leaving. She continued to check in postpartum and was very helpful with a postpartum visit answering questions that had come up and encouraged us to keep in touch.

I would highly recommend Lisa as a doula!

When my partner and I became pregnant, we knew hiring a doula statistically increased healthy birth outcomes, but were naïve about labor in general, being first-time parents. And as our pregnancy was progressing normally, we weren’t exactly sure how a doula might be personally useful to us. Still, we did as the baby books bid us and dutifully began to interview several folks in the Portland area, eventually stumbling across Steady Birth. I’m so grateful we found Lisa.

During the introductory call, Lisa stood apart from other doulas we interviewed as she was extremely professional and pragmatic. Even as a stranger on a Zoom meeting, she read as the sort of person you wouldn’t mind being stuck in a hospital room with (a high bar). We made the decision to work with her within minutes of speaking with her.

When we went into labor, we realized we had perhaps underestimated how intense labor can be (turns out, it *does* hurt more than going to the dentist). I cannot overstate the following: I don’t know how we would have gotten through my son’s birth without Lisa. Frankly, she was more on top of it than the medical team. Not only did she hold my hand throughout the whole shebang, but she also provided invaluable support to my apprehensive husband. She was kind, assertive if needed, and wholly nonjudgemental during the intimate experience of childbirth. Looking back, I feel very positive about my labor experience despite several complications, and I know this perspective is due, in large part, to Lisa’s support.

In short, working with Lisa should be a no-brainer. It was easily the best decision we made during this adventure. We will be recommending her to all of our pregnant friends.

Lisa was such an integral part of our birth experience and simply put, I cannot imagine going through the labor and delivery process without her. We were lucky enough to have Lisa as our birth doula and go through the Birth Roots class with her. Throughout it all, she focused on unbiased evidence-based research and helping us understand the choices we had throughout the process. We had a really positive delivery experience at Maine Med and a huge part of that is thanks to Lisa.

Before birth, Lisa was always available to answer any questions we had. As a first time parent, it was really helpful to understand whether things I was experiencing were normal.

During birth, Lisa joined us right after the hospital intake process and helped guide me through movements throughout the phases of labor, offered incredible tips and tricks as I got nauseous, had the shakes and still had some pain after the epidural, to name a few. She also helped coach my husband on how best to support me as we went through the process. During labor she helped with counter pressure and targeted massage, which made all the difference. She also worked seamlessly with the nurses and doctors at Maine Med.

After birth, Lisa continued to check-in on us and helped us navigate the challenges of breastfeeding and pumping by offering some suggestions and pointing us to the right lactation professionals.

Throughout the process Lisa has been so proactive in communicating with us and checking in on us in the most supportive and empathetic way. It has meant so much, particularly in the postpartum phase.

Lisa is worth her weight in gold and I would not just recommend her to my friends and family, I would insist they have Lisa by their side!

Lisa - we can't thank you enough for all the support you gave me, Oscar and Emilia!

I highly recommend Lisa as a doula as she showed responsibility and sympathy from the first day I met her. I not only met a doula, but also a person who I could count on for help as she gave me confidence to talk to her about my personal issues so that she could do an effective job. She was available to me any time of day if I had any questions or concerns, and she was always there to advise me and give me her opinion.

Likewise, Lisa is a person who listens to others, is patient, and very careful with her clients. Not only did she help me, but she also helped my husband to educate, talk to him about birth, and give him the confidence he needed for the big day since he was nervous, too. Lisa was such a beautiful person that as new parents far from our families, she helped us give our baby his first bath together as we were very nervous because our baby was small. It is a moment that I will always remember. I thank God for having put her in my path and of the many doulas that there are, for her in particular. We highly recommend her and know she would provide good service to moms or couples.

I’m forever grateful to Lisa for being incredibly supportive, available and providing council that helped me get through a very difficult labor.

Lisa’s pre-labor prep armed me with the tools I needed to create the best environment possible (the shower tip was the only thing that helped ease my pain!)

Even though I gave birth across the globe, I felt that Lisa was there with me in the moments I needed it most. She was just a quick phone call away to speak with me or provide advice through my mom when I was otherwise occupied.

Lisa was such an amazing person to have in preparation for labor. She was so informative and answered any questions I had with no judgment. She is such a calming soul to talk to and really helped calm any nerves my husband and I had. Lisa gave us so many resources to look through and ideas for ways my husband could provide me additional support and be more involved in the birthing process.

During postpartum she was so helpful and offered so much advice and support as well as resources that were meant for my recovery. I can’t thank her enough for all that she was during this life changing event.

Lisa went way above and beyond our greatest expectations. Looking back I don’t know how we would have navigated our pregnancy and delivery without her unbiased wealth of information and resources. Her emotional support and validation got us through all our obstacles and fears. We can not recommend Lisa enough.
